The American Halter Horse Association is not "officially" associated with HOC participating clubs, but AHHA wants to recognize your exhibition efforts with your Halter Horse. Your accomplishment can be recorded, if you show at participating HOC clubs, if you are a member in good standing and you are currently enrolled in the program. Through your participation with your your registered American Halter Horse your earned points will be recorded on your official lifetime halter record.
Halter Open Competition or HOC is designed so members can earn additional points, without having to travel to an official AHHA show. Members wishing to participate should check the AHHA website prior to traveling to a show to verify which clubs are participating. Here's the way it works:
-You don't have to be an active member of AHHA to participate but you are required to be if you want to accumulate points.
-You must complete the HOC application, submit it, and wait for your HOC participant card prior to the show(s) you plan to participate in. Shows posted before HOC applications received and processed will not accumulate points.
- The show where you plan to accumulate points in must be a participating HOC Club. If they are not, an application can be downloaded for them by visiting HOC Clubs.
- If you placed within the top six in the class, you must notate the classes you participated in, the number of horses that were in that class and your final class placing. You must place the judge(s) names on the HOC form (ask the show secretary if you do not know the name). You must present (you keep the card) the Show Manager (President, Secretary or Treasurer) with your HOC participant card and they must sign your HOC form BEFORE you leave the show. Forms that are not completed and signed will not be accepted.
-Mail your HOC show form back to:
American Halter Horse Association
% HOC Department
P.O. Box 227
Merit, TX 75458, so your points can be recorded.
Awards for the HOC Program are:
HOC ROM (Halter Open Competition Register of Merit)
HOC ROM certificate will be awarded to horses who have accumulated (20) points in approved clubs.
HOC Superior (Halter Open Competition Superior) Award
HOC Superior Award certificate will be awarded to horses who have accumulated (60) points in approved clubs.
HOC (Halter Open Competition) Champion
HOC Champion Award plaque will be awarded to horses who have accumulated (120) points in approved clubs.
Horses will only receive the above mentioned awards once. For instance, if your horse has received (120) points in an approved club, your horse will have received a HOC ROM, HOC Superior Award and a HOC Champion Award. Each time you receive additional points, you will not receive additional awards.
